Ocotillo Poetry Slam
Bentley's House of Coffee and Tea
1730 E Speedway, Tucson, AZ
4th and sometimes 2nd Saturdays

Tucson's slam season begins on the 4th Saturday in August and ends with the Slam-off on the 4th Saturday in April.  In order to be eligible for the Slam-off, a poet must compete in two slams during the season.

Poets will receive points for the following (points are awarded at Coronation Slams only, not special events):
1 point for competing in a slam
1 point for making it into the third round
1 point for winning (so if you go home with the crown, you have a total of 3 points)
1 point for mc'ing a slam
1 point for stage managing a slam (watching the door, working the sound system, etc.)
1 point for attending a workshop

The 12 poets with the most points on the 4th Saturday in April will be eligible to compete in the Slam-off.  If any poet in the top 12 chooses not to compete or doesn't show up on time, the 13th highest scoring poet will be allowed to compete, and so on down the list.  No one who hasn't competed in two slams will be eligible for the Slam-off, regardless of their points.  All poets must sign a contract with rehearsal requirements, PSI rules and financial responsibilities before the Slam-off.

The Slam-off will be a three round slam with no elimination.  The top four poets by cumulative score will be the Tucson slam team for the next year.  Team members will be replaced if necessary by the next highest scoring poet on the list.

iWPS and WOWps selection process:

All poets who have competed in an Ocotillo Slam in the current season (i.e. since the most recent Nationals) are eligible to compete.  The qualifying slam will have a 1-minute, 4-minute, 2-minute, and 3-minute round, in that order and with no elimination.  The highest scoring poet will be Tucson's representative at the tournament.

Updated to clarify:

Points will be awarded ONLY at Coronation Slams.  iWPS and WOWps slam-offs, regional slams, and special events do not count towards team selection.
