Burlington Slam Project
Third Thursday of every month
Black Bull Neighborhood Pub
1124 Guelph Line
Burlington, Ontario, CANADA

The 3rd Thursday of the month at 7:30 pm we open doors, at 8pm we have sign up for the Open Mic and Poetry Slam, and at 8:30 the open mic starts the night. We have 2 rounds of poetry slam, with elimination if more than 10 sign compete. We use 5 randomly selected judges (picked by host) and have a feature artist between rounds, before the break.

Everybody who slams gets 1 point towards season standings. The competitive season is September to March, with Finals in April.
The top 5 placers in each slam gain extra points (1st=5, 2nd=4, etc…)
To qualify for finals you must have slammed AT LEAST twice in the season
In finals, everybody is given a handicap in the form of a points deduction based on their standings.
The deduction is only applied to their 1st poem– the more seasonal points you have, the less severe that handicap.

Breakdown for the handicaps 2015
(Points vs Deductions):
0-5 :    -2.0
6-10:    -1.5
11-15:    -1.0
16-20:    - 0.5
21+:    - 0

The season's points will determine the top 12 contenders for our finals that will vie for five team slots and the opportunity to participate in the 2015 National Poetry Slam. If one of the qualifiers after this selection is completed cannot attend NPS, we will select a replacement based on where individuals finished in finals.

The iWPS representative for The Burlington Slam Project will be the slam champion (winner of the Team Selection Slam) from that year. If the slam champion from that year declines to attend, the next highest ranking poet from the Team Selection Slam will be asked, and so forth. If no competitor in the Team Selection Slam is able to attend, an open slam of interested participants will be held to determine who will represent the venue.

WOWps representative will be chosen from the winner of an open slam competition, early in the same year as the event.
