I would be honored to be a featured poet In October......   www.mikeguinn.com

SlamCharlotte is dedicated to bringing Charlotte and the surrounding areas the best in featured artists.
In an effort to do this, the SlamCharlotte Management team has decided to open up feature slots for the 2012-2013 season only to poets who have NEVER featured at our venue before.

NPS 2012 needs YOU to make our "I Am POETRY" campaign a success!!

As part of the planning process for NPS 2012, we are doing a "I Am POETRY" video series to be used in our marketing efforts.

Help us get ready for NPS 2012-Charlotte by telling us what makes YOU poetry! Submit a 30 SECOND personal video to us via email: iampoetrynps@gmail.com. The video MUST contain the words "I Am Poetry". We welcome all forms of creativity. Please keep all submissions clean and free of anything offensive.
Some of the content will be used in commercials and marketing efforts for NPS 2012-Charlotte!

Disclaimer:
I grant National Poetry Slam 2012, in partnership with Poetry Slam Inc., the right to use any video or audio reproduction of the commercial submitted for archival, promotional, educational or commercial purposes and for use in future commercial
products of PSI. I understand that I retain the copyright to the poems themselves.

The videos must be received by 5pm on 6 July.

This is your opportunity to "possibly" be showcased in a commercial to help market NPS 2012.

PS: Don't forget to tell us who you are and where you're from on your video.

Thanks in advance_

The NPS 2012 Planning Team

This is FRESH! This is RESET!! This is SlamCharlotte!!!

SlamCharlotte is dedicated to bringing Charlotte and the surrounding areas the best in featured artists.
In an effort to do this, the SlamCharlotte Management team has decided to open up feature slots for the 2012-2013 season only to poets who have NEVER featured at our venue before.

*We will start accepting requests IMMEDIATELY*

This is how it works..........please read the entire note.

Our slam is the 3rd Friday of every month. We don't have features in April, May, or June. Our slam season runs from July to June.

SlamCharlotte passes the hat to pay our features and allows them to sell merchandise. In the past, features have received between $100-$400 but please understand that we have no way of guaranteeing you a certain amount. We can offer lodging at a local hotel the night of your feature.

We can provide you with a listing of other poetry venues in the area BUT we do not book shows for you. If we book shows for you, there is a 20% administrative fee that comes out of the performance rate you receive.

Our feature slots go very quickly and we are thankful for that. So that means when the request for features open up, you should be expedient in your request.

If you are interested in featuring, please send an email/FB message to MY attention. The email should include the month you are interested in featuring. If you are new to performance poetry and there is a slim chance that we might not know you, I urge you to send links to past performances, your written work will not be accepted. Verbal/phone requests to feature or requests sent to other members of the management team will not be accepted.

It will be taken to the SlamCharlotte Management team for consideration. Everyone who sends a request will be notified of our decision.

After all feature slots are filled, we start a short waiting list in the event that a feature has to cancel.
You can’t slam for a spot on SlamCharlotte's team and feature in the same season. We seldom book features who have been a part of a SlamCharlotte team, however we will consider this option if you are part of a group of touring poets.

We hope to see you at SlamCharlotte as a featured artist!

I don't see the forum

Please post your venue name and the city your slam is registered/certified in. That will help expedite the process of getting you access.

Jsutin_I'm one of the HC co-chairs. You are welcome to contact the hotel to secure space to make this happen or do it in your private room.

The HC does not have space at the hotel or venues that you can utilize for this purpose.

General Discussion / Re: Boycott Nationals??
« on: May 11, 2012, 05:29:01 PM »
The NPS 2012 Planning Team respects the rights of all people and we understand the concerns that some have expressed about the approval of Amendment One in the state of North Carolina.

As a result of Tuesday's vote, we know that some of you may feel that you are not welcome in North Carolina, but that is not the case, and we hope that you will keep in mind that the Amendment was defeated in both the city of Charlotte and in Mecklenburg County.

Also, we feel that now, more than ever, the voices of those affected should be heard. We believe that NPS 2012 will be the perfect forum for this, especially when you consider that the 2012 Democratic National Convention will take place in Charlotte just 4 weeks after NPS 2012.

And what better group of people to raise their voices to be heard than poets, large groups of poets?

We need you to come to North Carolina and let your voice be heard. And to help facilitate this, we are planning a special opening event for NPS 2012 on Monday, August 6:

Spit LOVE~SLAM Amendment One

More details about Spit LOVE~SLAM Amendment One will soon follow, but our goal is to involve various organizations in the Charlotte community and invite every media outlet that will come.

If you disagree with Amendment One, then we invite you to make a stand by joining us in Charlotte for NPS 2012, where you will have a chance to let your voice be heard.

Many thanks_

The NPS 2012 Planning Team

The EC has split the duties up.

I suggest emailing Cassie Poe since she is the Event Coordinator. She will disseminate the info to the appropriate people.

General Discussion / Re: Two Further Questions for All EC Candidates
« on: March 02, 2012, 12:49:51 PM »
2) There has been a lot of talk regarding the possibility of PSI events being held within a limited number of host cities.  How do you feel about this idea?  Are your for or against it?  Explain your position.

For many years, I was against PSi grounding events. This was purely a selfish decision. I have been able to travel to cities I never likely would have travelled to all b/c of poetry. More specifically b/c PSi holds 3 yearly events in various cities around the world yearly.

I have given more thought to this possibility over the last 2 years. I see the merit in both grounding the events and continuing to have them rotate yearly. There are pros and cons for each.

I think it would be easier to ground the smaller events than NPS. NPS requires a great deal and I think it would be hard to find a city willing to host it for an extended period of time.

HOWEVER I am willing to do what is in the best financial interest of PSi. It seems like at this point in our 25 year history of slam, that grounding our events might be more beneficial.

"To enhance the perception of literary merit and legitimacy of performance poetry as an art form."
What the above mean to you?  Do you believe that  we are currently successful in the enhancement of perceived literary merit and legitimacy of performance poetry?  If not, what do you, as a member of the EC, hope to do in order to further this process?  Or, for incumbents, what do you see as roadblocks to achieving further literary merit for our art form?  Can you propose a way to circumvent these roadblocks within your next term?

To me the article is pretty straight forward. PSi wants to show the "world" that performance poetry is a legitimate art form and should be respected as such.

I think PSi has done this by providing 3 national level poetry events yearly. They have established rules for each event that attempt to include the "best" performance poets around the world. The events include workshops that serve to further enhance the writing and performance of those participating and also the community in which the events are held. Another way PSi does this is by mandating that certified/registered slam venue under their purview have 6 slams per season & that their team is not hand selected. There are set guidelines and rules which serve to add legitimacy.
