Is a tattoo a prop?
« on: January 22, 2012, 11:23:04 AM »
Apologies if you've discussed this before on the forum or elsewhere...

Some Toronto poets and I were talking one day about the prop rules and we wondered how PSI viewed tattoos. If a poet references his/her tattoo during a poem, does that violate a prop rule? No one else has access to that, unlike a mic; then again, it's part of one's body, one's skin, and I've seen poets refer to their, say, hair without getting any penalty.

Thoughts?

Not a prop. It's the same as pointing to a scar or a bald head or anything else that would pass the 'naked-in-a-room' standard.

I'm guess a tattoo may not be a prop... but getting tattooed on stage while spitting a poem about tattoos would be ..... unless the tattoo artist was available to everyone in the room! ok.. next idea.. tattoo party poetry slams...!
And those who were seen dancing
were thought to be insane
by those who could not hear the music...
