a couple random NPS questions
« on: July 19, 2011, 09:41:43 PM »
Does our coach have to be a PSI member?

How many event passes does each team get? Is that contingent on how many team members we have?

Teams can receive up to 5 passes. It is based on the number they register.

5 examples:

1. If a team has 4 members and one of the members is their slammaster, they receive 4 passes.

2. If a team has 4 members and a slammaster, they can receive 5 passes.

3. If a team has 5 members and a slammaster, they receive 5 passes and must purchase a pass for the 6th person.

4. If a team has 4 members, a slammaster, and a coach, they receive 5 passes and they must purchase a pass for the 6th person.

5. If a team has 5 members, a slammaster, and a coach, they receive 5 passes and they must purchase a pass for the 6th and 7th person.

I don't think there is a rule that states the coach must be a PSi member, however they will be required to sign the code of honour if they are acting in an official capacity during the event.

I think this was a change made two years ago, when PSi realized how much revenue was lost per team by giving one extra free pass beyond the number of people required to be registered PSi members. Everyone was so upset that I believe the restriction was dropped or relaxed for that year, but picked up again for 2010. Am I remembering correctly?

This thread from July of 2010 explains everything.

It's a limit of 5, as Inkera lays out.
It was 6 last year as Dahled points out, but that had special circumstances.

Read the thread. All shall be revealed.

There are a few threads on this in that time frame, but the debate was here:

and the decision was here:

are volunteers getting a finals ticket this year? (or, to rephrase, is the festival pass that a volunteer gets good for entry into finals?)

@Dahled Volunteers will have to volunteer a certain number of hours to receive a ticket for finals.  There is no way PSi can afford to give away over 200 finals tickets.

There's also no way psI could pull nps off with out them either. I guess I'll just have to see if Erik has me host/bout manage enough to qualify for a ticket. after spending the 5 grand or so it takes to get my team to Boston from Oakland it'd kinda suck to miss finals. at this point I have no idea how we're even going to eat so buying a ticket is pretty much out of the question for me. this is a change that imho is terribly misguided and shortsighted in that it affects SMs/coaches specifically.

How can it be shortsighted when it's been on the books for almost 2 years?

@Dahled I completely understand what you are saying. This is not a NEW change. This has been this way for years. Maybe you have always volunteered enough hours and it wasn't an issue.

Most large festivals that I know of have levels of volunteering. The more you volunteer, the more you get in return.  Here are a few examples:

Sorry to ask this again, kinda feel like it may have gotten lost in the shuffle of some other questions.   Does anyone know when the bout draw for NPS 2011 is coming out?
