Dear Steve

While I will refrain from mentioning the travesty of the Granderson trade, I'll have all year to curse that one... I am not seeing much in the way of Detroit action. Can you help me understand what philosophy is driving this offseason?

Haven't you heard? There's a recession on and in Michigan it is of Great Depression dimensions with 25% unemployment and in Detroit, if you count part-timers seeking full time work, the rate is over 50%. We are thinking of playing with only 8 or perhaps 7 on the field this year. If the shortstop can't cover shallow left and center too, then we don't need him.

Hey, the recession is even hitting the Yankees. Otherwise, their starting rotation would be Sabathia, Burnett, Lee, Lackey and Holladay. Times are tough, even for the 27-time World Champions.   :-*

Maybe the Yankees could buy the Tigers?

Max Scherzer will be solid.

That may be, I did miss his games last season so I didn't get to see him pitch, but I am more giving Steve grief about the Yanks getting Granderson than the Tiggers coming up short.

Yes, I began to boycott baseball again when I heard the Tigers let Polanco get away from them. $18 million for three years, that is the reason. Can't blame him, only poverty. And then Granderson.

I'll be happy to see .500 again next year.

Guys, look at the bright side: at least you're not Pirates fans.

We'll be lucky to see . 500 next decade.
