IWPS Registration Opens FRIDAY, Aug 14
« on: August 12, 2009, 07:47:00 PM »
Folks--

--- COUNTDOWN TO IWPS 2009: the organizers here in Berkeley are on time, and under-budget!  All our venues are booked.  We have over a dozen FREE events during the tournament, with world-class emcees and facilitators.  People went crazy when we made our presentation at the Slam Family meeting last weekend in Florida!  This is going to be the biggest, best attended, and most competitive Indi World Slam ever!

--- Poets who competed at a registered venue get first dibs.  But if you’re NOT representing a regular slam, you can still apply.  There are always slots held open for ‘storm poets’ who don’t have a slam in their home town.  And in the past, there have always been a few open slots for whomever.  But this year, we’re expecting a crush of qualified poets, so don’t delay!  Please check our website, as we’ve done a lot of work to post information and FAQ’s that poets may have about the event.

-- Registration opens this Friday, Aug 14.  Please go to http://www.poetryslam.com and follow links to the Store, then to "PSI Signup".  If you are representing a certified regular slam event, then you can just pay for registration. The link to register won't appear until Friday, however!  If your slam is not certified, you'll need to start by certifying your venue before you can register a poet.  If you're not representing a venue, you can just pay to register and (hopefully) get one of the "Storm Poet" slots.  If you miss out on those (there's only 12) then you'll have to wait wait in line to see if all the slots for certified venues get filled or not.  If not, then you're in!  If they do, you're stuck on the waiting list.  So basically, you're MUCH better off winning your local certified slam.

See you at tha BIG slam!

This question has been answered in the Slammasters group (hidden, if you aren't a registered slam organizer), but it's worth repeating here.

A hotel has been selected.  Negotiations have begun.  PSI's official negotiator, Henry Sampson, is taking a much-deserved break after pulling off a miraculous Nationals in Florida.  Locking in the deal with the hotel is his #1 priority upon returning.

Friends, if you haven't already registered to compete, please do so quickly. Here's a note from the Executive Director of Poetry Slam, Inc., Steve Marsh:

"I have never seen iWPS apps come in so fast and so early. I haven't done a count yet, but we already have dozens of applications (and one complaint that I didn't have them up on the website at 12:01 am on Friday). Looks like we are headed to one of the most competitive iWPS events ever."

Folks--

--Poets' Slots for IWPS are more than half filled!  If you haven't registered, please do so ASAP!  Go to poetryslam.com, go to the Store, and click on PSI Signup.  It'll lead you from there.

--Our Home City Committee met last night, and we are SO EXCITED!  We already have 42 volunteers confirmed, which is not counting emcees and daytime event hosts.  If you haven't been to the website in the last week, GO!  Look at all the day events, side events, and workshops we have scheduled for you!   Our Director of Hospitality, Nazelah Jamison, guarantees that your Poet's Bags will be STUFFED with goodies!  We will have FREE FOOD for poets, staff, and volunteers on Thursday and Friday!  This is going to be such a great party!

--We just confirmed Jamie DeWolf to host a XXX Haiku bout as part of the Late Night Erotica Reading, and Paulie Lipman to host the 12 Tribes reading.  We still have a couple side events emcees slots available, so if you're interested, contact our Daytime Events Director (Jen G) directly at:  chthonian.j@gmail.com

--Negotiations with the Host Hotel have begun in earnest.  It's going well.  We are hoping this will be wrapped up quickly.

Over and out
