Nationals Snorkeling Trip?
« on: July 22, 2009, 11:27:00 AM »
So, I'm thinking about arranging a snorkeling trip from the host hotel to Boca Raton's Red Reef Park.  It's probably South Florida's best beach accessible snorkeling experience.

Go here for the details:

So far, we've got Team Boise and Stefan Sencerz.  We're working it!

Excellent.

There's almost no services at the beach itself (bathrooms, water fountain, shower).

My suggestion would be to go to the Publix next to the host hotel, and pick up a cheap mask and snorkel.

Shoot me an e-mail (mesaslam@yahoo.com) with your phone number.  There's enough of us now (Team Boise, Arrian Wissel from Phoenix, Stefan, you) where I'll do a quick snorkeling class (15-20 minutes) at the host hotel, and I'll text everyone Wednesday night just to confirm we're going (if the weather picks up, there won't be a point in trying to snorkel).

And if we get more people, we'll have to be creative with transport.

Folks,

Slots are filling up.

So far, we have confirmations from:

Team Boise
John Miller from Killeen
LJ from Dallas
Todd Bannon from Kalamazoo
Stefan Sencerz from Corpus Christi
Arrian Wissell from Phoenix

Possibily members of Team Phoenix and Christian Drake of ABQ.

At this point, I'll be renting a mini-van...  but that's filled up based upon the above.  We can go to a larger van, but that's more money, so I'll need to know ASAP.  If you've got your own wheels (like Team Boise), you can caravan down with us.

If you're on the above list, please shoot me an e-mail (mesaslam@yahoo.com) so I can send you a text confirmation.  They'll be a brief snorkeling training class on Wednesday at the host hotel pool, and please remember you'll need equipment (Publix or a drug store will sell cheap masks and snorkels) and to bring with you things you'll need (water, sunscreen, snacks, change of clothes, etc.)

And if the weather is bad (rough water), we'll have to cancel... The water will be cloudy and you won't be able to see anything, so you might as well save the money and just go to the regular beach.

It's $16.00 to get into Red Reef Park.  However much you want to spend on a mask and snorkel and fins (fins are not needed, but helpful).  And depending on what we need for transit (right now, we've got two cars of people who are going, but they are filled to a certain degree).  If we rent a minivan, it'll be another 7-10 dollars.

And if I can't borrow my father's car, I'll rent one, but I'll probably cover that myself.

Two questions: Do you have a car?  And if so, would you will be willing to drive?

Backchannel is fine...
