The Lizard Lounge Poetry Slam
1667 Massachusetts Ave
Cambridge, MA. 02138
http://poetryjam.org

Every Sunday at 7:30pm

The first sixteen Sundays of each year we have qualifying slams of up to eight poets.  Poets sign up of a first come, first serve basis the day of the slam.  We pick five random judges from the audience.  The judges scale is 0.0 to 10.0.  We drop the high and the low score of the five judges.  The poets have a three minite and ten seconds time limit.  We deduct .5 points for every ten seconds the poet goes over the time limit.  The poets are not allowed to use any props.

We perform three rounds of poetry and drop the lowest scoring four poets after the first round, the two lowest scoring poets of the second round and there are two finalist left for the last round.  The winner is in the semi-final and the second place finisher is a wild-card.

For instance, a poet wins three out of sixteen weeks, we replace the two extra weeks with the top two scoring wild-cards etc.  We have two semi-finals of eight poets each.  In the semi-finals we perform three rounds of accumulative scored, three minute and ten seconds per with a 0-10 judge scale.  The top four poets of each semi-final goes to the final.  The remaining eight poets perform three rounds of accumulative scored, three minute and ten seconds per with 0-10 judge scale.  The top four poets are on the team.

Replacement for the team are selected in the order af the finals.  So, if a team member needs to be replaced, the next highest scoring poet of the finals will be asked to fill the slot.
