National Poetry Slam - PAKZOO Team Selection
Our tournament for the National Poetry Slam team is held the first four weeks of April. In order to qualify for the tournament, you must have placed first or second during one of our bimonthly slams (or first, second, or third in a super slam) during the twelve months prior to the tournament.

The April tournament consists of three weeks of semifinals and one finals week. You may not repeat any poems during semifinals or finals. The three semifinal rounds are cumulative. The top eight semifinalists move on to the finals. Finals night consists of two rounds. Scores from semifiinal rounds are wiped. All eight finalists compete in both rounds. Scores are cumulative. The top five poets from finals will make up the PAKZOO team traveling to the National Poetry Slam in August.

In the event that one of the five poets is unable to compete with the team or a poet is removed from the team, the team will vote to decide if a fifth member is needed. If the team decides to bring a fifth poet, then the sixth place poet from finals will be asked to participate. If this poet is unable to compete, then the next eligible poet will be asked. Semifinalists who did not make finals are eligible if no eligible finalists are available.

In the event that the team drops below the requisite four poets and all the tournament poets have been exhausted, then an emergency slam will be held to fill the empty team slots. This slam will be announced on the PAKZOO website, through the PAKZOO e-mail list, and (if time allows) in the Kalamazoo Gazette.

(Are these documents allowed to be altered after posting? Poets Anonymous K-Zoo will soon be run by committee and we may decide to alter the tournament process.)
